On August 3, 2018, Broward Vietnam students had a field trip to Yakult Vietnam.  Here, they had a great experience to learn about the operating procedures and management system of the best fermented beverage company in Japan – Yakult Vietnam.

First, you will be introduced to the history of the product and the company's operations. Accordingly ,  Yakult Honsha, one of the leading companies in Japan and a pioneer in the field of Probiotics. Yakult was created by Japanese scientist Minoru Shirota - he discovered a strain of bacteria belonging to the lactobacilli group that effectively inhibits harmful bacteria in our intestines.

He then became the first person to successfully isolate and stably culture a strain of lactobacilli in 1930, which became known as Lactobacillus casei Shirota.

In 1935, he began producing and selling Yakult.

In which, Yakult Vietnam was established on June 26, 2006, with a total investment capital of over 400 billion VND contributed by Yakult Honsha Company of Japan (80%) and Danone Group of France (20%). Yakult Vietnam started its business in August 2007. Currently, Yakult products are available in most supermarkets and retail stores throughout Vietnam. In addition, Yakult is also distributed directly to customers' homes in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vinh through the Yakult Lady delivery system.

Next, BC students were led to visit the factory's automated environment with many different areas such as: Research and bacterial culture area, milk growing area, quality control area, packaging area and finally the storage area.

Most of the operations at the factory are automated by machines from the milk growing to the packaging stage and are supervised by biological engineers, quality control staff and technical department.  (Due to the confidential nature of the factory tour, photography is not allowed)

In addition, this trip also provided students with useful information about career opportunities for students in the food and beverage industry. According to Mr. Son, Head of Technical Management at Yakult Vietnam, “The company always welcomes new graduates with a high learning attitude, because as long as they have a good working attitude, they can learn valuable experiences that they lack when studying at university.”
